The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it generated a revenue of over ₦121 billion between January and June 2013.
The Command, in its half year performance report, noted that the amount is about 52% of the targeted ₦234 billion for the first six months of the year going by its monthly revenue target of ₦39 billion. The NCS explained that its inability to meet its half year target was due to the continuous decline in the volume of importation into the country.
A breakdown of the revenue figure shows that it collected ₦20.8 billion in January; ₦19.8 billion in February; ₦18.6 billion in March. The record also shows that over ₦20 billion was collected in April; ₦19.8 billion was collected in May; the command collected a total of ₦21 billion in June.
