The long awaited final World Cup list was finally released on Monday, June 2 by the Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi.
Given the opportunity to become Nigeria’s first-ever century- international is the super eagle’s defender, Joseph Yobo, who will play in his third FIFA World Cup finals after he was named in the African champions’ final list of 23 for Brazil 2014.
Meanwhile, African Nations Championship Most Valuable Player, Ejike Uzoenyi and AFCON winner, Sunday Mba did not make the list.
For goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama and Austin Ejide who made the list of the chosen 23 for Brazil 2014, this would be the third World Cup they would be going for while for midfielder Mikel Obi, it would be his first.
Former junior international players, Elderson Echiejile and Uche Nwofor are also part of the 23 players going for the World Cup in Brazil but Olympic silver medalist Obinna Nsofor and nimble-footed Nnamdi Oduamadi are not included in the list.
Midfielder Joel Obi, former U-23 star Nosa Igiebor and home-based goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi were also dropped.
