Information Ministry ready to bring back Stolen Artifacts

The Minister Of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, has assured Nigerians that the Federal government is fully ready to bring back stolen historical artifacts that were stolen and moved out of the country during colonial era.

The minister disclosed this statement by his representative Mr. Augustine Eta during the open ceremony of the National Gallery of Arts’s Solo Exhibition of the Art works of Mr. Joseph Alufa Igbinovia and also unveiling of his book title “Festac ‘77, Unmasking the Unsung Hero” in Benin, Edo State, Southern Nigeria.

The minister said that the federal government is determined to bring back the country’s stolen artifacts that were stolen during the colonial era.

“The federal government of Nigeria is determined to return all its artifacts in different parts of the world to bring them to the country.”

The Minister explained that the federal government has served noticed to the various countries across the globe which houses the country historical artifacts in their museum and vow to make sure that these artifacts are returned back to us in Nigeria.

“These countries include Britain, America, Asia and others.

“The Federal government of Nigeria, National Gallery of Arts is today exhibiting your works and unveiling a publication on your life and works is a testimony that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration will not forget and those that did and are still doing the country proud at the one point or the other.”

In the same vein, the Edo State permanent Secretary of Arts, Culture and Tourism Mrs. Dorcas Idehen who represented the governor of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki said that the Edo State government is willing to partner with the federal ministry of information and Culture to bring back Nigeria artifacts that were stolen during the colonial era.

The governor also said that his administration is planning to build a royal museum where historical artifacts will be showcase in the state and also assured the Edo people that the works of Mr. Joseph Alufa Agbinovia will be kept in the museum and others talented artists.

“I want to assure you that the work of Joseph Alufa Agbinovia will be kept in the museum and others too.”
