Nigerian Immigration to introduce 72 new categories of Visa

The Nigeria Immigration Service says the new Visa on arrival policy of the Nigerian government will not be a threat to national security as well as employment opportunities, as it is set to introduce and categorize72 different types Visa protocols to ensure security and success of the new policy.

The Comptroller General of Immigration, Mohammed Babandede made the statement at the passing out parade of 509 upgraded staff of the agency to executive grade at the Kano training School.

He said government is aware of worries being expressed by Nigerians about the possible mass exodus to Nigeria and its negative but was quick to add that there is no cause for alarm as adequate measures are being taken.

“Nigerians should not be worried as the 72 visa categorization will ensure that our national security is not threatened and our jobs are not also taken away by foreigners,” said Mr. Babandede.

He said the well thought out policy received a lot of consultation and contributions from the agency for eight months before the Nigerian President Mohammadu Buhari announced it during a state visit to Egypt this month.

The Immigration boss reiterated on the decision of the agency to deport any illegal migrant who refuses to registered within the six months Amnesty period given to them which ends on January 15th ,2020.

“The registration will continue for those arriving Nigeria newly after the amnesty, but not for these already in Nigeria that refuse to register.”

They will be automatically removed because that is the position of the law. The normal period is 90 days but the president extended it to six months,” he cautioned.

He said the agency will soon commence drug test for all service men in the agency in line with the president’s campaign for a drug free society.

He said the test will beginning from him as the topmost officer of the agency and the result will be made public.

“The drug test has become necessary as most of the officers bear arms which were purchased using tax payers’ money, as such it will be irrational to put lives of citizens in danger buy allowing drug addicted officers to carry arms,” he said

He advised the upgraded graduands to ensure that the Nigerian public and foreigners fill the impact of the training, if not the physical and the classroom activities the underwent is useless.

He equally enjoined them to take advantage of new curriculum introduced into the agency including ICT to perform better as they eschew corruption in all their activities in and around the Nigeria border.

He commended all the military and Para- military agencies who contributed to the success of the exercise.

The Commandant of the Nigeria Immigration Training School, Kano, Mr. Ismail Hamis, urged the graduands to shun sharp practices and upheld professionalism.

One of the graduands Nwawike Onumesiga said the rigorous training has impacted on them discipline, management of interaction with foreigners as well as modern management of border posts.

The passing out parade ended with a colorful match past and awards to distinguished officers during the training.
