As part of its commitment to micro, small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs) in the country, Diamond Bank Plc and the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) have launched the third series of the bank’s BET (Building Entrepreneurs) programme.
The event which took place in Lagos recently was designed to empower young and old entrepreneurs in their respective businesses. Its major aim is to support, educate and encourage SME operators through an entry via its website.
According to the bank, selected candidates would be shortlisted for training and education.
Head, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises at Diamond Bank, Chima Nnadozie, said, “Having come to the recognition that SMEs represent most part of the private sector and also happens to be the driving force of most economies, Diamond Bank decided to play in that space because it is the backbone of every economy.”
Commenting on its contribution to the growth of SMEs in the country, Mr. Nnadozie said, “Since we started in 2009, we have given out over ₦70 billion to over 30,000 small businesses. This itself is a testimony that we are interested in lending to that sector,” adding that “at the end of this programme, the best five would get a grant of ₦3 million each to add to their businesses to help in continuous growth.”
